Conceptual Sculptures and Artist Statements
Deception of Goals
Our sculpture displays the concept of how things aren't what they seem. When you reach your goals they aren't as they were intended to be. We represented this by having a door that is magical and amazing to represent the way we perceive our goals. However, on the opposite side of the door it is withered and not as it seemed. This side of the door represents that the payoff is not what they always thought it was. The hand represents humans reaching and striving for their goals. The hand is like a bridge to help us get there to reach our goals.
The Running of Technology
With our art piece we are showing how people are losing social abilities. We are losing the face to face ability to talk to one another and losing the enjoyment of going outside in nature. With old technology people had to move around to get where they wanted. Now with new technology we can get to places and information with the touch of a button. It supports us by not going out and getting ourselves. Making us lazy and not getting outside much. By not having to go outside to get places and do things, we are not meeting new people, and we are losing sociability. New technology is stopping us from what is better for us, and old technology is getting us outside more and enjoying what we need. Our sculpture shows us the difference of new and old technology.
Our sculpture represents good fighting evil. We believe everyday normal people can be heroes too. This sculpture shows a superhero wearing a cape and a bad guy wearing blue armor.
Our sculpture shows how cyber bullying can consume a person. In todays society, people these days are too glued to their phones and don’t get enough into the world. Having these types of people causes bullying when kids are just so attached to their phones. With cyber bullying teens and even younger children commit to suicide and other stuff that will affect their lives forever. In conclusion, cyber bullying is a big problem in today's world and it is our job to help stop it by showing everyone how difficult it is to overcome when getting bullied and how much it can affect your life when bullied. We have a phone made out of cardboard that has a person getting sucked into all the cyber bully messages. We have the bully’s name with mean emojis next to them and have tissue paper to represent the ripples she is getting sucked into.
Our sculpture is about the Top Rulers in a race. There are egg cartons on the bottom to support the Top Rulers earning bronze, silver, gold medals. The egg cartons represent common normal people who are not always on top and ruling. Yet, these common people support the rulers. The poles on top of the board represent the places the rulers hold such as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Any ruler in society would not be able to participate in a race without the common everyday people supporting them. Our sculpture represents the division between common everyday people and the top ruler in our society.
